Background:
Fondation Scouts Canada Foundation has established several scholarships
to be awarded annually to support members of Scouts Canada entering or
continuing full time studies at a Canadian university or college.
These scholarships are presented in memory of Reginald K. Groome who,
in addition to many other Scouting roles, served as Chairman of the Boy
Scouts of Canada Trust
(now the Fondation Scouts Canada Foundation) for a number of years.
Purpose:
To enhance the mission of Scouts Canada through recognition of
scholastic
and other achievement by youth members of Scouts Canada.
To encourage continuous self-development on the part of active
youth members of Scouts Canada through institutions of post secondary
education.
Number of scholarships:
Up to twenty-five undergraduate scholarships will be awarded.
An individual may only receive one award.
Awards are not renewable.
Age criteria:
Applicants must not have reached their 25th birthday on January 1st of
the year in which they apply.
Selection criteria:
Candidates will be selected based upon the following criteria:
- demonstrated Scouting history, involvement and achievement;
- leadership contributions to Scouting;
- community leadership and contributions outside of Scouting;
- scholastic achievements up to the time of application;
- attitude and aptitude;
- two letters of reference (only one from within Scouting).
Conditions:
A scholarship will be awarded only after Fondation Scouts Canada
Foundation
has received adequate notice that the applicant has been accepted by the
institution of study.
